Up to the Plate: Bob Johnson Congress NY 23

Mon Aug 16, 2004 at 06:30:46 AM PDT

In NY State, where the Democrats had abandoned some districts and refused to nominate a candidate at all, it looked for a time as though the entire "hump" of the state would also be without a Democratic candidate.

Finally, someone stepped up to the plate. Dr. Bob Johnson, a veteran and the only thoracic surgeon in the "North Country," got motivated by his disgust over the Republican Medicare Fiasco to make his first run for public office. Johnson is strongly opposed to George W. Bush on issues of the war in Iraq, health care, the environment, and jobs.

The papers are saying he's a long shot against conservative John McHugh in this very conservative part of the state, but I'm touched by his candidacy. Why? ...

Bush Campaign: "Visualize No Liberals"?????

Wed Jun 02, 2004 at 08:14:02 AM PDT

Irregular Times reports the official Bush campaign features a video with the words "Visualize No Liberals" prominently displayed.

It's not enough for the official campaign of George W. Bush that conservatives win politically. The campaign has endorsed a vision in which liberals are no longer present in America at all.  Given that in the current climate liberals have no intention of going away, it stands to reason that for this vision to pass liberals would have to be removed. How would this be accomplished? To date, the official campaign of George W. Bush is mum on details, but we can imagine.

By choosing to endorse a vision of removing political opponents, George W. Bush's campaign subverts the ideals of reason, civility and democracy.  When will the official campaign of George W. Bush apologize for promoting this message? Or, more tellingly, does it feel that it has nothing to apologize for?

Flowers to San Francisco

Fri Feb 20, 2004 at 12:30:38 AM PDT

There's a movement afoot.

You're living in Peoria.  How can you show your support for the same-sex couples getting married in San Francisco?

How can you let the newlyweds know they've got America's support?  How can you send a message to the rest of America that you support these marriages?

Barely Breathing has the right idea, and it's spreading like wildfire over the 'net:

Shower Them With Flowers!

Call Flowers on the Bay at 1-888-217-9119 and order a bouquet of flowers to be delivered to City Hall to any same-sex couple getting married.  Include a note of support.
If they're busy, call Mariner and Co. at 1-800-797-7744.
If they're busy, look up another florist using San Francisco Citysearch (search for "florist" and sort by distance)

What will the right-wingers think when they're confronted with pictures and videos of such overwhelming love and support?
More importantly, what might moderates on the fence conclude?

Let a thousand flowers bloom!

Bush's Scream?

Tue Feb 10, 2004 at 08:59:37 AM PDT

According to The Associated Press, George W. Bush made a speech in which his voice was "rising to a shout."

Does anyone have audio of the shout?

Can this be spread a la the Dean Scream?
